July 22, 2014
A corporate social media policy is a vehicle for employees to be able to know how to communicate the company message effectively in the different social media. Through the policy they will be able to learn what they should and should not do.
Your staff, clients and corporations are already on social media and will more than likely be talking about your company. Clear guidelines will ensure that your company brand is enhanced and that your reputation is not sullied by an errant remark.
It is beneficial for the business to involve their employees and make an input to the business' social media. They may have great insights and opinions to share with customers and clients. Employees are an amazing in helping promote the company business on social networks where they belong.
How to Implement Your Business' Social Media Policy
It is important to make your Social Media Policy as clear as possible. You must learn from the examples of employee firings wherein some businesses use their Social Media Policy to address the issue.
It is strongly recommended that you state your policy first. This is the best format. Then follow it with a bulleted break down of the key points. An example is Microsoft's policy, which includes a frequently asked question section that further clarifies the policy for employees. Revive Projects suggests offering guidelines or best practices by creating a draft of social media recommendations that businesses can tweak to fit their needs.
Once the social media policy has been finalised, it is important to inform your employees that there have been changes made to the employee agreement which they signed when they were hired. You must send an e-mail, post a memo and attach a copy of the new policy or a link to where they can read and review these new policies. Educating your employees on the social media policy will help curb problems that may arise.
